Having been on the dance music scene now for more than two decades, he is one of the very few producers of the underground to have achieved international mainstream success by following an underlying passion and calling while also sustaining a huge impact on the underground circuit. Thomas Schumacher is known for his genre defining and highly personal take on Techno music.
A key figure in establishing the rave scene in his native city of Bremen in the early 90s, Thomas Schumacher made his first international marks with the singles “Ficken?” and “When I Rock” on legendary Mancunian Techno label Bush, the label that was home to other groundbreaking artists like Dave Clarke, Felix Da Housecat and Timo Maas . His single “Schall”, released in 2001, became Thomas Schumacher’s second Top 20 chart hit in Germany with sales in excess of 150.000 units.
In 1998 Thomas Schumacher founded his first label, Spiel-Zeug Schallplatten, the seminal label that spotlighted music from the likes of Adam Beyer, UMEK, Deetron or Stephan Bodzin. In 2005 Thomas Schumacher moved to Berlin where he signed with Get Physical Music and continued to release material under the alias Elektrochemie together with Stephan Bodzin and vocalist Caitlin Devlin. In 2011 he launched his second label Electric Ballroom where he consistently releases quality music with appearances by Victor Ruiz; dubspeeka; Hot Since 82 and Simian Mobile Disco, to name a few.
Thomas Schumacher’s remix portfolio encompasses the artists Trentemoller; The Knife; 2Raum Wohnung; Noir; Monika Kruse; DJ Hell; Booka Shade; Oliver Huntemann and Frankie Goes To Hollywood.
This year Thomas Schumacher will continue to host Season 6 of his widely acclaimed Radio Show My Electric Ballroom. Every 60 minute episode is a mix of current favourites, classic choices and crafted mixes heightened with over 25 years of stories and friendships, personal views and first hand knowledge, much to the delight of his dedicated fans and listeners.
Currently, whilst preparing for a string of upcoming Electric Ballroom releases as well as deep-routed touring all over the world, Thomas Schumacher continues to push musical boundaries in his DJ sets, radio shows and productions.
